Deleting your data

Trace has no accounts, so there’s no account to close. Here’s how to delete what Trace keeps.

On your phone

In Trace, open Settings and choose Delete everything. Your diary, settings and voice recordings are erased from your phone.

On our server

If you’ve used Together, a report link or asked someone who knew you, Delete everything also removes what Trace holds for you there: your pairings, links, invites and what was sent to them, and your anonymous ID.

If your phone is offline when you delete, those go on their own: links and invites expire, and Together pairings end after 60 days without an update.

Deleting the app

Deleting Trace from your phone erases your diary, but leaves anything on our server until it expires. Use Delete everything first.

Your phone’s backups

iCloud or Google backups of your phone may include Trace’s encrypted database, but not its key, so the copy can’t be opened. Your phone’s settings manage those backups.
